Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends

winnie1Determining the socionic types of famous heroes is both fascinating and instructive. When teaching socionics, we always analyze Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends with our students. This helps us understand how to build a strategy for determining the type.

  1. Is Winnie-the-Pooh rational or irrational? He always behaves according to the situation, spontaneously switching from one activity or action to another. For example, as soon as he finds out that Piglet has no food at home, he immediately decides to go to Rabbit, and at Rabbit's he declares that he is free as soon as he understands that he can still have an extra snack. And then he remembers "one important thing" when Rabbit "alas, there is nothing left". Conclusion: he is irrational.
  2. By the way, this same behavior also speaks about him sensory. The motive of "something to eat" is one of the main ones for him. And even to climb a tree to bees or in a hot air balloon. He clearly did not intuit the potential of bees to protect honey, as well as the consequences of flying in a balloon for honey. You can even say that he has a hedonistic attitude to food. That is – he has sensorics the comfort, that is, "white sensorics" (S).
  3. Is Winnie-the-Pooh ethical or logical? "And what are bees for in this world? – To make honey. – And what is honey for in this world? – So that I can eat it! I think so!" There is an obvious chain here logical reasoning with a bias towards "business", object logic (P), dealing with concrete objects rather than abstract relationships or principles. Conclusion: he is logic.
  4. Extrovert or an introvert? For many, the question is controversial and unclear. On the one hand, Pooh talks a lot, makes up moos and puffs, and on the other hand, he doesn’t give himself away in any way, realizing that Owl has found Eeyore’s tail, he behaves quite secretively, only advising Owl to give “this lace” to Eeyore. And here the signs fail, and socionics in the person of the model and functions gives us another opportunity. If we know that Pooh is irrational, that sensorics in socionic model of his type comes first. And logics is on the second position. So, there are only two options left: either sensory-logical extrovert (SLE,FL, "Marshal"), or sensory-logical introvert (SLI,SP, "Master"). The first is strong-willed, warlike, who can take something away and fight. The second is a lover of comfort, food. But we have already determined that Pooh has sensorics of comfort and delicious food (S).

Conclusion: Winnie-the-Pooh is sensory-logical introvert (SP).

Now about Piglet:
winnie3

  1. He also is irrationaland easily changes his plans, in sync with Pooh.
  2. He is very sociable, obviousextrovert.
  3. "Any sensoric": Piglet shoots at the balloon with Winnie-the-Pooh, closes his eyes, runs with the balloon-gift to Eeyore without looking under his feet, and this ends sadly for the balloon. Then for some time he figures out where the balloon went. Input: he is intuitive.
  4. Doesn't show any signs anywherelogics— neither in reasoning nor in actions. Winnie the Pooh sets the logic of his actions and always explains it to him. Conclusion: most likely Piglet is ethics.

So Piglet is intuitive-ethical extrovert (IEE,IR, "The Storyteller").
What is relations between Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet? Its are dual of course. This explains both their friendship and the coherence of their actions in various situations. Moral: if you doubt the type, check the relationship.

winnie2Notice how different the behavior of this irrational pair (dyad) from the behavior of the Rabbit, as obvious rational, who anticipates and thinks through his own behavior and expects others to do the same. How he is somewhat shocked by Pooh's irrational behavior, but politely tries to hide it. So he is ethics and obvious introvert: “And what the Rabbit thought, no one knew, because he was a very well-mannered Rabbit”. And clearly he is not sensoric: having heard Pooh's question: "Is there anything else?", Rabbit drops his plate in surprise. This indicates weakness, "undersizedness" sensory functions. And as he is introverted intuitive, not strong-willed sensoric, he clearly doesn't know how to throw a gluttonous guest out of the house. Conclusion:intuitive.

So, the Rabbit is ethical-intuitive introvert (EII,RI, "Humanist").

But with certain differences all of them: Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet and Rabbit – are friends. They are all from fourth (delta) quads. England, where they come from, too.
